Feb. 15th - No School-President’s Day

Congratulations to our January Students of the Month: Kyle Quigley and Rachel Welch!

Congratulations to the Devil Dazzlers who brought home 3 trophies from the competition in Marion last Saturday. They have now qualified to compete at state with all 3 of their dance routines. Way to go, Dazzlers!

There will be a Seniorfest meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Seniors and parents should attend.

Bass Team Meeting on Thursday, Feb. 11th, at 3:30 in Room B1. Bring your completed forms and a copy of your fishing license if you haven’t turned it in.

All students are invited to attend a presentation by Dr. Laurie Achenbach, SIUC College of Science Associate Dean and Microbiology Professor, on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 3:30 in the auditorium. The presentation is entitled …Environmental Toxins in Southern Illinois Lakes.

Multicultural Club will be selling Valentine’s Day balloons during lunch through Wednesday. The balloons will be delivered on Friday.

Seniors: There will be a Seniorfest survey and signup sheet Thursday and Friday, Feb. 11th and 12th during all lunches. If you will be going to Seniorfest, or might go, please sign up so we can get an idea of how many students we should plan on attending. Also, please fill out a short survey so we know what types of actives to plan. (2-12)

Women's basketball game starts at 5:30 p.m. with men’s following at 7:30 p.m. Former Red Devil Mark Imhoff, the current JALC Men's Basketball Head Coach, broke Tom Ashman's all time wins record this past Saturday. A special presentation will be made to Coach Imhoff during the men's game.

Attention junior girls: It is time to begin planning prom! There will be a prom committee meeting on Tuesday (2/9) after school in the cafeteria. Please plan to attend and if you cannot, see Ms. Ward or Mrs. Trimble.

The meal includes chili, hot dog, dessert, and drink. The cost is $5.00 per person. Project Graduation is a drug and alcohol-free annual celebration for our new graduates.

Juniors need to register for their senior year- The Guidance Department has set the class meeting on Wednesday, February 3rd at 9:30 in the auditorium. Juniors will be called over the intercom.

Medal Pride/Academic Success Applications for Term 2 were in your mailboxes. Please give to students as they ask for them. It is THEIR responsibility to fill it out and turn it into the front office BY FRIDAY, JAN 15TH AT 3:30!!! Hopefully, cards will be ready to hand out by Friday January 22nd (if all goes well). Please make sure the criteria sheets are posted in your classroom.

Students must have all fee's paid, books returned, equipment turned in etc...before they can attend any field trips and prom. Please check list with Karen before you allow a student to attend any of these events. Unfortunately, we have many students not returning books, paying fees, etc... Thank you!

The RIF Meeting at IEA Carterville office is rescheduled for THURSDAY January 28th at 5:00 PM.

Attention Students! Looking for 3rd to 12th grade students….. Do you create websites, have your own blog, or use Twitter or Skype? Are you into robotics? Do you make movies or digital stories? Is Clay Animation your thing? Are you a Photoshop or Comic Life master? We need you!!!! We are looking for attendees and presenters for the Students Involved with Technology Conference. The Illinois Elks is having a Free Children’s Diagnostic Orthopedic Clinic. You may call 1-800-272-0074 to get more info or to confirm clinic date and set up an appointment. Clinic dates and location are: Feb. 26th, May 21st, August 27th & Nov. 19th @ 2:00-4:00 pm @ Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion.

Students: All fee's and holds must be paid and books returned before you will be allowed to attend Prom and field trips.

There will be a baseball organizational meeting for all those trying out, that are not involved in winter sports, on Friday, Jan. 15th in the Dr. Ed. room at 3:20. This will include information about baseball open gym. Open gyms will start Jan. 25th. You must have a physical, athletic acknowledgement sheet and insurance on file to participate.

There will be a newspaper meeting on Friday, January 15th in A79 immediately after school.

Upward Bound will be here on Thursday, January 21st during all 3 lunch periods.

Regional Office of Education, in cooperation with the Teachers’ Retirement System, is scheduling telephone conferences on Feb. 18th. If you would like to speak with a TRS benefits counselor, call the Regional Office to complete a request form. Forms must be returned to the Regional Office no later than Jan. 14th. Conferences will be scheduled February 18th, between 9:00 am - 5:45 pm in 15-minutes time periods. (See the office copy room bulletin board for the form).

SOPHOMORES - It is time to pick up Whiffle Boy's Pizza Fundraiser Cards from Miss Bryant and Miss Melvin again. You may sell cards through January 22nd at a cost of $10.00 per card. Your participation in this fundraiser is highly encouraged!

Due to the weather, the RIF Training scheduled for Thursday, January 7th at the IEA office was cancelled. The training is rescheduled for Wednesday, January 28th at 5:00 p.m. If you signed up to attend on the 7th and are unable to attend on the 28th, please let Gretchen at the IEA office know.

On January 12th Term 2 Grade Cards will be handed out in the 4-B period.

Due to snow days—January 12th is the last day to make-up semester exams.

Students: All fee's and holds must be paid and books returned before you will be allowed to attend Prom and field trips.

There will be a baseball organizational meeting for all those trying out, that are not involved in winter sports, on Friday, Jan. 15th in the Dr. Ed. room at 3:20. This will include information about baseball open gym. Open gyms will start Jan. 25th. You must have a physical, athletic acknowledgement sheet and insurance on file to participate.

Tuesday nights basketball game is Lime Green ~ Lymphoma Awareness Night! Anyone who has ordered a Lime Green ~ Lymphoma T-shirt, your money is due today and pick-up will be at Tuesday night’s game, see Mrs. O'Leary.

If you are interested in starting a bass fishing team at Murphysboro High School, please see Mrs. O'Leary in B1 anytime this week.
